Well, the title says all. I'm looking to diversify my selection of reggae bands. As of now I've got slightly stupid, the expendables and of course Bob Marley but they're getting a bit overplayed.

Reggae. Here are a few of my picks that aren’t necessarily on the top 10 list when you go looking.
Pandora, offers a great way to hear them before you buy.
UB 40, Steele Pulse, Shaggy, Alaine, Apache Chief, Aswab, Big Mountain, Jimmy Cliff, Cage the Elephant, Gyptian, Hezran, Harode Andy.
I got a list. That is a few to keep you busy for a while. The Marley's have their own music as well Ziggy, Reta. You can do a search for his son's that are now artist.
Rasta!

If you want some good old school stuff, try Burning Spear, Toots and the Maytals, The Mighty Diamonds or Peter Tosh. Also a good little known current band with an old school sound is The Aggrolites. their first self titled album is fantastic. Lol at Cage the Elephant being Reggae. Not in my book.

My own preference is for old school rootsy stuff. All the dancehall and its variations just was never my thing, but let us not forget about things like dub and some of the stuff reggae came from, like rocksteady and ska. So yeah, Lee Scratch Perry, for one, and the Skatellites if you like ska instrumentals, and let's not forget Desmond Dekker, who did a lot more than Israelites.

Cage the elephant honestly causes me pain. Their lead singer's voice is just... ugg!

I've always enjoyed Reggae but didn't really know the names besides Matisyahu and of course Bob Marley, and some old calypso like Harry Bellafonte.
Anyway now you all are getting me to thinking of trying to learn some on the ukulele lol just to play not sing though.
